Types of Men’s Coats (4) “Mod Coats (M-51)

The M-51 winter parka, or “mod coat,” adopted by the U.S. Army in the 1950s, was first called “mod coat” by the Japanese media after the mods (young British workers) who wore slim three-piece suits and U.S.-issued M-51s in England in the 1960s. The most distinctive feature of the mod coat is the hem hemmed hem at the back of the coat. The most distinctive feature of the mod coat is the fishtail hem, which is split at the back like a swallow tail and has a drawcord at the hem. Because of this design, it is sometimes called a fishtail parka in Europe and the United States. The material is basically olive green light cotton nylon or thick cotton twill, and some can be fitted with a wool pile thermal liner and a fur-trimmed thermal hood as attachments. Today, it has become established as a fashion outerwear that creates a military-derived masculine atmosphere. While the well-designed items offered by apparel brands are good, it is also interesting to look for deadstock or vintage items at thrift stores if you are looking for something more authentic.
