Types of Men’s Coats (7) “Duffle Coats

The ” duffle coat ” is a hooded, warm-weather outerwear made of thick, raised-finish melton fabric. The name “duffle coat” originated from the city of Duffel near Antwerp, Belgium. Although it originated from the work clothes of fishermen in Northern Europe, it was adopted as winter wear by the Royal Navy during World War II, and became popular after the war when a large number of surplus products were sold on the market. In Japan, duffle coats, like P coats, became widely popular as school coats worn by junior and senior high school students. The most distinctive feature of the duffle coat is the front toggle buttons and hemp cord loops that allow the wearer to put on and take off the coat while wearing gloves. Today, the authentic melton duffle coat is still very popular, and modern and stylish items such as outdoor-inspired updated nylon and light fleece coats are also attracting attention.
