The P coat is an outerwear worn by the Royal Navy from the end of the 19th century on board ships and by fishermen, and the “P” is derived from the Dutch garment “pij jekker” = “rascha (a kind of wool) coat. The word “Pea Jaket” was derived from this, leading to the current name “P Coat. The coat is characterized by its high-density melton material, heavy front placket to prevent wind from penetrating, and large collar for sound collection.
