The M-51 refers to the 51st model of winter clothing adopted by the U.S. Army in the 1950s. To be exact, it is called ” PARKA SHELL M-1951. It was created as an item to be worn over a field jacket. Therefore, many of the full-scale models have a detachable liner to cope with various weather conditions. The most distinctive feature is the “fishtail,” a tail-shaped hem with a vent. Although fur is now a common feature, fur is not attached to full-fledged models, and a fur hood (coyote hood) can be attached according to the occasion. Incidentally, since it was a standard item for “modders,” a.k.a. “mods,” who were popular in England from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s, it is also known as a fashion item.
