The 1953 mocca loafer uses hand-stitched mocca specifications, which require a great deal of time and effort. In the case of machine-stitched mocca loafers, the completed upper is generally matched to the last (wooden pattern), and the mocca loafer is then fished into the sole. In contrast, for the 1953, the last is inserted into the upper before the mocca portion is formed, and the mocca is sewn along with the instep portion of the last to create a three-dimensional silhouette that is as close to the shape of the foot as possible. This allows the mocca part to achieve not only a beautiful silhouette, but also a fit that seems to adhere to the foot. The “Mackay method” is a manufacturing method in which the upper and outsole are glued together with shoe glue, and then sewn together using a special thread impregnated with pine resin for extra strength.
