What is ” Red Wing “, the king of work boots?
Red Wing is the ” RED WING SHOE COMPANY,” a shoe manufacturer founded by Charles Beckman in 1905. The “Brown Chief” series introduced in 1912 made Red Wing’s name famous throughout the U.S., and the company’s products have been used in the U.S. and Japan since the 1990’s. The company has been known as the “American casual shoe company” since the 1990’s. In Japan, Red Wing gained immense popularity during the heyday of the American casual wear boom in the 1990s. The “Irish Setter,” the brand’s heritage model, has become synonymous with work boots, and its popularity continues to grow.
As of February 2022, Red Wing is in the midst of a serious inventory shortage due to the effects of a pandemic. In addition, the company’s database for manufacturing shoes was damaged by a large-scale cyber-terror attack, and the production of shoe laces, doves, soles, and other components has been slowed down by the new coronavirus. RED WING JAPAN announced on its official YOUTUBE channel that Beckman’s Featherstone type shoes, which are very popular in Japan, will be discontinued due to the manufacturer’s situation. The official online store is also out of stock of the 6″ Classic Moc Oloracet “Portage” type and several sizes of the Black “Chrome” type, and is still waiting for their arrival.

The Postman was developed as service shoes for military personnel, police officers, postal workers, and other public servants, and was launched in 1954. At the time of its release, it was positioned as “shoes for policemen, postmen, and station officers,” but it was adopted by the USPS (United States Postal Service), and post office workers across the United States began wearing them, and the nickname “Postman Shoes The nickname “Postman Shoes” is said to have taken root. Red Wing’s classic model 4 “Engineer (Steel Toe)”(The image is HERITAGE STYLE NO.2268 11” ENGINEER)
The Engineer was originally developed for railroad engineers, and was designed with a shaft and strap so that the hems of trousers could be pulled into the boot without getting caught in machinery. The masculine look of the Engineer was extremely popular among the youth of the time, who sought a new style along with leather jackets and jeans, and it has remained one of Red Wing’s representative long-sailor boots ever since.

Red Wing classic model ⑤”CLASSIC ROUND”(Image: ICON STYLE NO.8166 6″ CLASSIC ROUND)
The 6-inch round toe boot, which has been manufactured as a basic work boot since the company’s founding, has evolved over its long history into today’s classic round. Originally, two pieces of leather on either side of the ankle were sewn together at the calf, but in the late 1940s, the ankle was made into a single piece of leather that softly wrapped the ankle from the calf side, creating a seamless back that was soft to the touch and light on the foot. In 1953, Red Wing’s iconic white traction tread sole was introduced. In Japan, the successor model based on the Classic Round #766 has been a standard style since the 1980s.
