History of Dr. Martens
Dr. Martens is a British shoe brand founded in 1945 by Klaus Maertens, a doctor who served as a military doctor in the German army. Klaus Martin, who injured his ankle while skiing in the Bavarian Alps during his military leave, invented an air-cushioned sole for rehabilitation by processing an old tire, which led to the creation of this brand. The rubber sole, known as a bouncing sole, was named “Air Wair” on April 1, 1960, and was commercialized after 10 years of development. The first model, the 8-hole boot, was loved by rock musicians of yesteryear such as “The Beatles” and “The Rolling Stones,” and remains popular today as a Dr. Martens icon.
Not limited to 8-hole boots, Dr. Martens shoes have several standard details. The “yellow stitching” used in the pressure-bonded Goodyear welt method and the “polished smooth leather” with its unique luster are typical examples.
