When Paul Sperry saw his dog running on ice without slipping, he noticed the distinctive grooves on the soles of the dog’s feet. Inspired by this, he made a cut with a knife in the rubber sole of his own sneaker and created an original sneaker that did not slip. He then adopted the same grooves in the deck shoes he was developing at the time, resulting in deck shoes that did not slip even on wet decks.
