Suede Loafer Special! From recommended models to how to care for them

Suede loafers are a useful men’s fashion item for off-casual styling or to add a touch of class to a suit style. In this issue, we focus on “suede loafers” and pick up items of interest!

What is suede?

Suede is a material in which the inner surface of leather is raised with sandpaper. Originally invented in Sweden as a material for gloves, it became popular in France, an advanced fashion country, and was called “gaunt de suede” (gloves made of suede), which is why it has spread around the world as “suede. It is interesting to note that although the material originated in Sweden, its official name is French.

What is the difference between suede, nubuck and velour?

Speaking of raised fabrics, nubuck and velour can be mentioned in addition to suede. All of them are definitely raised materials, but the terminology differs depending on the texture and the surface to be processed. For example, while suede is raised on the flesh surface, nubuck is a leather with a raised surface. The processing method is the same as that of suede, but the leather with longer bristles is called velour. It is also important to keep in mind that the distinction between velour and suede is unique to the Japanese culture. Outside of Japan, the term “suede” seems to be the standardized term.
