Three features and classic models of Nike's legendary Air Max 1

There have been many classic sneakers that have left their mark on history, but the current state of sneakers would be very different if not for the introduction of the ” Air Max 1 “. It is not an exaggeration to say that the high-tech sneaker boom and the “dado” sneaker boom were all triggered by innovative technologies such as Visible Air. In this issue, we focus on Nike’s ” Air Max 1 ” and introduce some of the most notable details and classic models available today!

The legendary “Air Max 1” sneaker is still very popular today

The Air Max 1, as its model name suggests, is the first model in the Air Max series that continues to this day. Nike shoes are famous for the technology that injects “air” into the sole, but it was first used in the late 1970s. Named the Air Cushioning System, this technology was the brainchild of aerospace engineer Frank Rudy and was first used in Nike’s ” Air Tailwind ” running shoes in 1978. Despite its unprecedented construction, the shoe was not a great success, due in part to problems such as the lack of a place for the pressure of the airbag to escape when the center of gravity rests on the calf.

Almost a decade later, in 1987, the Air Cushioning System was to demonstrate its true value with the introduction of the Air Max 1. The main reason for the success of the Air Max 1 was the design that made the air inside the sole “visible” from the outside. Tinker Hatfield, the genius designer behind the Air Max 1, took inspiration from the architectural design of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and came up with the idea of a window in the midsole. This design, named “Visible Air,” allowed the pressure of the airbag to be released appropriately, thereby solving the problem of the previous design. Visually, it was a novel design that had never been seen in sneakers before, and it was a huge success in the sneaker market. March 26, the day the Air Max 1 went on sale, is considered ” Air Max Day ” and every year a special model is commercialized.
