Alfred Sargent is a long-established British leather shoe brand that has been family owned and operated for over a century, and has been producing high-quality leather shoes for over a century. The company also produces shoes on an OEM basis for other manufacturers and collaborates with select stores, and is recognized by other companies in the same industry for its strength. The company offers a wide range of collections, from the sturdy to the modern, including the royal straight-tip “Armfield” and the dressy brogue “Henley” shoes. The company’s rational production system ensures high cost performance, which is also attractive.

Alfred Sargent is also famous for keeping its factory in the holy land of leather shoes

Alfred Sargent was established in 1899. The founder, Alfred Sargent, together with his sons Frank and Harry, established a workshop bearing his name in Rushden, Northamptonshire, England. The family business developed steadily, and in 1915, 16 years after its founding, a factory was established on Portland Street in Rushden, also in Rushden. This home of Alfred Sargent, which continues to this day, was the first single-story factory in the town of Rushden to switch from the old gas lighting to electricity.

In the 1940s, Frank’s son Derrick Sargent entered the business. During this period, when the industry was beginning to switch from manufacturing military boots during World War II to men’s shoes after the war, shoe manufacturers in Northamptonshire, the holy land of leather shoes, were experiencing tremendous growth. Alfred Sargent was one of the main players among these popular shoemakers.

Alfred Sargent’s leather shoes continue to be made in the same 240-strong manufacturing process as they were more than a century ago!

In the 1960s, the Sargent family entered its fourth generation, with Paul and Andrew joining the business. In 1999, under the leadership of Paul Sargent, the fourth generation of the Sargent family, the company celebrated its 100th anniversary and joined the ranks of traditional English shoe brands. Today, under the same roof on Portland Avenue, a small group of about 150 elite craftsmen breathe the spirit into each pair of shoes, carrying on the traditional style established by the founder Alfred in the early 1900s. The entire 240-strong process of selecting, cutting, and stitching the finest cowhide and sewing takes as much time as it did more than a century ago.
