Whitehouse Cox is a British brand established in 1875. The company was founded by Mr. Whitehouse and Mr. Samuel Cox in Walsall, northwest of Birmingham, the second largest city in the U.K. Until the 1920s, it manufactured high-quality harness goods such as saddles and reins, and items for the British military. In the 1930s, in addition to pet supplies such as collars and leashes, the company began to produce fashion items such as cufflink cases, shirt collar boxes, bags, and luggage.
A major turning point for the brand came in the late 1970s. While White House Cox’s main market was department stores and specialty stores in the U.K., a dog collar and mesh lead made of bridle leather sold in the pet goods section of Harrods, a high-end department store, caught Ralph Lauren’s attention.
