What does sperga (SUPERGA) mean?

The name “SUPERGA,” which means “super rubber” in Italian, dates back to 1925 when the word “SUPERGA” was stamped on the rubber soles of sneakers manufactured in 1925. The brand logo design was developed in 1962 and was based on the concept of ” minimalism and simplicity. It was designed by renowned Italian designer Albe Steiner.

Sperga’s concept ” PEOPLE’S SHOES OF ITALY

The concept of Sperga is rooted in the Italian culture. General casual shoe styles fall into three categories: American, British, and Italian. There are several popular and large international brands such as Converse in the US and Reebok in the UK. On the other hand, when it comes to Italian-style casual shoe brands, Sperga is by far the largest. Sperga’s own “PEOPLE’S SHOES OF ITALY” is no joke.

Production has expanded since becoming part of Pirelli

In 1951, the company became a subsidiary of PIRELLI, Italy’s leading tire manufacturer, and its business grew rapidly, increasing production from 2 million pairs in 1952 to 12 million pairs in 1975. The company has built a solid positioning as a comprehensive sportswear brand.

Sparga’s roots are in tennis shoes! Signature models are often developed.

The brand has been recognized by the signatures of Adriano Panatta, the top tennis player of the 1970s and 1980s and a Davis Cup champion, and Dick Stockton, the world’s eighth-ranked tennis player and coach at the University of Virginia. In 1976, Italy was the only country to win the Davis Cup. The sneakers worn by the players at the time of the victory were Sperga.

In 1981, Ivan Lendl, one of the most famous players in the golden age of men’s tennis, won the U.S. Open wearing Sperga tennis shoes. The company launched a signature model for Ivan Lendl in 2017.

Spelga’s 100th anniversary marks the store’s accelerated global expansion

The first Sperga store opened in Italy in 2004. In 2011, the brand celebrated its 100th anniversary, and between that year and 2014, Sperga opened stores around the world. 100 stores were opened in Italy, in addition to London in 2011 and New York in 2012. 100 stores were opened in Hong Kong, Taipei, Istanbul, Amsterdam in 2013, and Sao Paulo in 2014. Amsterdam, and in 2014 in Sao Paulo and Singapore, and is still in the process of opening new stores.
