G-janes for men! From the history of Levi's, to the characteristics of each type, to the hottest coordinates and items, all in one place!

Let’s take a look at the characteristics of each type of G-jacket!

Today, many brands produce G-jeans, but there are five main types that form the basis of their design. Here we introduce the characteristics and designs of each type!

G-jacket type (1) “1st type” with a design that pursues practicality as workwear and is full of a rugged mood

As the name “1st type” suggests, the “506XX” was Levi’s first G-janes and was born in 1936. It is a model that can be said to be the cornerstone of all G-Jans in the world today, and there are some deep-rooted fans who prefer to wear this design. The design features include the folds (action pleats) on the sides of the buttons on the front placket and the flap pockets attached only at the low position on the left chest. The belt (cinch back) at the back waist is another feature of the 1st type. The design, which shows the pursuit of practicality as workwear, has a particularly rugged atmosphere among the five types.

G-jacket type 2: “2nd type” that is more fashionable than the 1st type

Following the 1st type, the “2nd type” Levi’s 507XX was released in 1952, and the major difference from the 1st type is that it has chest pockets on both chests. Also, the cinch back was replaced with a button adjuster, which was also used in later models. Compared to the 1st type, which had a strong workwear character, this model is said to be more fashionable, and many brands are still releasing new items in this design.
