Trainers originated as thermal underwear!
The original sweatshirt is the American sportswear brand ” Champion. Champion was originally a sweater manufacturer, but after the death of the founder, Simon Feinbloom, the second generation sons started manufacturing T-shirts, socks, and thermal underwear. Later, the warmth and durability of their sweatshirt underwear were highly evaluated, and they were adopted as training wear for the U.S. military and athletic wear for college sports. This led to their widespread use as town wear for general college students.

Champion patented the ” reverse weave ” in 1938. This is a specification in which the fabric is used horizontally instead of vertically, in order to reduce the vertical shrinkage of the sweatshirt. The name “reverse weave” comes from “reverse the weave of the fabric.
