What is meal replacement? From its appeal, to how to choose, to recommendations, all in one place!

We have all experienced situations in our daily lives where we do not have enough time to eat, such as leaving the house without breakfast in the morning or missing lunch because we are too busy at work. This is where meal replacement supplements come in. In this issue, we focus on “meal replacements” and introduce their features, benefits, and recommended products!

What is Meal Replacement?

The term “meal replacement” may be unfamiliar to many people, but in fact, many muscle trainers take meal replacements on a daily basis. Meal replacements are meal replacements that combine protein with carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients. Simply put, they are foods that contain protein plus additional nutrients. The definition is very broad, and foods that contain protein and other nutrients that can replace a meal can generally be called meal replacements. Some meal replacements are sold commercially, but it is also possible to make your own by adding maltodextrin or BCAAs to protein.

Finding Meal Replacements

Meal Replacements come in a wide variety!

Meal replacements exist in powder, cookie-like candy, and jelly types. The powder type in particular is often abbreviated as MRP (Meal Replacement Powder), and while many people mistake MRP as a single nutrient, it is important to remember that MRP is a general term for a supplement that can replace a single meal. Generally, the powder type, which is rich in nutrients, is the mainstream, but since it needs to be dissolved in water like protein, the snack type is probably superior in terms of convenience in carrying and speed in making supplemental meals. Therefore, it is ideal to use different meal replacements depending on the situation.
