Isetan Shinjuku is taking the lead in upcycling used stock of Levi’s® 501® by teaming up with more than 60 domestic and international brands, media including OTOKOMAE, and creators. The “Denim de Mirai: Denim Project” will be held at the store from March 23 (Wed.), offering more than 200 denim items, including apparel and lifestyle goods.

The project to upcycle used stock Levi’s 501 denim into a wide variety of items is now a reality!
The “Denim de Mirai” project, which aims to create a future in which people can choose “my kind of sustainability,” is a sustainable project that challenges the revival of approximately 20 tons of used Levi’s® 501® denim. The project has reconstructed a large quantity of denim owned by Yamasawa Press in downtown Tokyo into original denim items. During the period, 11 spaces with various concepts will be set up in the Isetan Shinjuku Men’s Building to sell and display a wide variety of items.

The display on The Stage on the first floor of the main building will be made of denim scraps and recycled boards made from upcycled uniforms worn at MITSUKOSHI ISETAN and MITSUKOSHI. The entire project is a challenge to take a sustainable approach, focusing not only on the products but also on the space of the sales floor.

Main Bldg. 1F The Stage ” Denim for Future
The main venue, The Stage on the first floor of the main building, offers a variety of items in various categories, including apparel, general merchandise, furniture, shoes, and artwork from about 40 brands, including N°21 (numero ventuno) and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Upcycled items created by leading designers in the fashion world from Japan and abroad, as well as valuable collaboration items, will also be available.

Daisuke Ohana, designer of N. HOOLYWOOD, a brand that creates new values in old things that exist today, collaborated with arflex, a modern lifestyle furniture brand. The company will sell cushions designed and inspired by arflex’s signature sofa, ” Marenco.

ISETAN SEED & REEF “Denim for Experience” on the 1st floor of the Main Bldg.
In addition to the limited-edition collaborative items with the brand, the exhibition will also feature a variety of exhibits that allow visitors to enjoy the world of Levi’s® 501® from various angles, including the “TIMELINE Collection,” which faithfully reproduces the threads, sewing, and dyeing of the archived 501® from 1890, and the “Raising Denim Rigid jeans (unwashed jeans) will be on display.

Yamasawa Press’s private brand “One-o-Five” will also hold a personal order event. One-o-Five will also be reproducing the details of the most viewed denim pants on the “OTOKOMAE” web site, using used stock 501® denim.

In collaboration with the art gallery CLASS, art works made from used stock denim are exhibited and sold. The gallery features the works of nine unique artists, ranging from paintings to sculptures.

Lifestyle goods that add color to daily life, such as furniture, bags, and art, are introduced. Cushions by Mina Perhonen, plush toys by Bobby Dazzler, and artwork by Mai Kishimoto, Takeshi Hizuka, and others will also be available.

Main Bldg. 3F Center Park/Promotion “Denim for Next generation
Members of “Master Innovation,” a group of 11 students from Bunka Fashion College, will showcase their graduation works made from used stock. The creations of these young students, who will lead the next generation of fashion, under the theme of “clothes that are neither products nor works of art, but have a quality and freedom in between,” are not to be missed.
Main Bldg. 3F Re-Style Plus ” Denim for Entertainment
In collaboration with “Disney Healthy Taiment,” a project that provides “activities to make people, society, and the planet healthier,” a collection of Disney characters using vintage materials will be developed. Limited edition T-shirts, tote bags made from 501® used stock fabric, and Mickey key charms will be available.
