What is a good cassock for men? Focus on the item's history and how it differs from the hunting cap!

This cassock features a rounded, fluffy shape and a top button on the crown. Among the many types of headgear available, the casket is the perfect item for expressing individuality, differentiating oneself from standard hats such as baseball caps and bucket hats, and adding a touch of old-school style to the look. In this issue, we will focus on the “cassock” and introduce the most popular men’s outfits and recommended items!

What is a casket?

Casket is a general term for a casual hat similar in style to a hunting cap (flap cap). It is characterized by its mushroom-like shape, which is fuller and rounder than a hunting cap, and by the top button on the crown, which is made up of eight pieces. This eight-piece style cap is said to have been derived from the traditional Scottish Tam O’Shanter, and the name casket is derived from the French word ” casque ” meaning ” helmet ” or “casque,” meaning “headpiece” or “helmet. This style of hat gained popularity among working-class boys and men, such as dockworkers, farmers, and newspaper deliverymen, from the late 1800s to the early 1900s, and over time spread to the upper classes as a gentleman’s sport cap for shooting, hunting, and other activities. Incidentally, in Europe and the United States, caskets are called “newsboy caps,” “baker boy caps,” “Irish Gatsby caps and it is extremely rare to refer to it as a casket.

What is the difference between a casket and a hunting cap?

Caskets (newsboy caps) and hunting (flat caps) are often confused because they are very similar in style, with both featuring a rounded form and a small, hard, inconspicuous brim, but their structures are quite different. The crown of a casket usually consists of eight panels, with a top button at the top of the head, whereas the crown of a hunting cap usually has no switch and no top button. The overall shape of the cassock is also different, with the cassock having a fuller, more rounded crown, and the hunting cap being rounded toward the back of the head, sloping down toward the front, and flattening out toward the brim.

What kind of outfit does a casket go with?

With its background in working-class menswear, the cassock matches old-school mechanics, carpenters, painters, barbers, and other craftsmen’s styling. They also work well with more country casual styles and fit in well with tweed, corduroy, denim, and other materials that are the mainstay of their outfits. The classic cassock is more classic than modern, more country than urban, and more work than dress. Of course, a classic cassock in tweed fabric is a great choice for seasoning a bourgeois look with a tweed coat, tailored jacket, or suit.
