Also, hip pockets with no flap are considered to be the most formal, and suits intended to be worn indoors often use this type of pocket. (1) There are other types of hip pockets besides the flap and no-flap mentioned in (1). For example, patch pockets are often seen in casual suits. These pockets are made by sewing a piece of co-woven fabric on top of the suit fabric, and are often found in spring and summer suits made of cotton, linen, or summer wool.
