The stitching on the heel, which runs horizontally, is another detail that symbolizes this model. The back of the loafer is different from that of ordinary loafers, and it has a rugged yet dignified look.

The upper is made of a leather called bookbinder calf. This leather, familiar to Church fans from long ago, is made by applying a special resin treatment to the leather. This material was developed for casual wear in London, where it rains a lot, and is more resistant to water, scratches, and stains than ordinary leather. The leather itself is high-quality calf, so it does not have the cheapness of so-called “glass leather” and has a unique luster.

The sole is joined by Church’s signature Goodyear welt method. While the majority of loafers that require lightness are made by the Mackay method or the cement method, the Goodyear Welt method is superior in terms of durability and comfort as the shoe grows more comfortable with each use. The heavy atmosphere created by the overhanging heel is also an element that cannot be found in other manufacturing methods.

The beautiful silhouette of the “126” last (wooden pattern) is also noteworthy. The moderately long nose is well balanced and creates a sharp footing.

As for the leather outsole, the design is common to almost all Church shoes, not only loafers. While many high-end shoes are made with Hidden Channel, which hides the sewing threads of the Goodyear welt method, Church’s consistently uses Open Channel, even for high-end models. The leather is not coated with wax, etc., but only stamped, giving a sense of quality and solidity.
