DESCENTE has introduced the “invisible” series, designed to keep functionality inside the item and not visible from the outside. This season, the series will debut with three items: a Mizusawa down long coat, a jacket, and a coach jacket on November 1 (Tuesday).

Mizusawa Down’s newest product is a sophisticated down jacket with high functionality and a sleek silhouette
The invisible series was developed to commemorate the 10th anniversary of sportswear manufacturer Descente’s top-of-the-line Ortheline collection. The three new items to be released this time feature special processing such as thermal bonding, a characteristic of Mizusawa down, on the inside of the garment.
A more minimalist design has been achieved, with high functionality in terms of waterproofing and heat retention, but with less echoing of surface irregularities. The simple design, which is so hard to make the garment look like down, is sure to be useful in a variety of situations, from casual to business. Another key point is that the down content has been reduced to 60% of the previous version so that it can be worn comfortably for town use.
In addition, the down is traceable, having acquired the DOWNPASS certification, which guarantees that the high quality standards are maintained through strict control by serial number. The three items in the new series will be sold at the limited-time store in Shinjuku Lumine 1, directly managed stores, and the official online store to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Ortheline collection. 2 items are also planned for the 2011 spring/summer season.
The developer says, “As the saying ‘God is in the details’ suggests, we believe that it is precisely because the specifications are invisible or hidden that we must pay close attention to the details and carefully craft them, which in turn leads to a commitment to the essence of the product. Invisibles adopt a new specification in which the down pack is hidden inside using a crimping method different from that used for Mizusawa down up to now. This is a new challenge for us in manufacturing, and we are very careful and particular about this because it is a part of the product that cannot be seen from the outside. The company comments, “This is a new challenge for us to create products that are not visible from the outside.
In addition, from November 1 (Tue) to November 15 (Tue), a 10th anniversary limited edition waterproof gadget case will be offered as a gift with a purchase of 77,000 yen or more including tax at participating stores.
