With polo shirts, it is easy to create a classy casual coordinate!

The polo shirt originated from the uniform worn by players of the traditional British sport of polo. It is a pullover shirt with one to four button placket, and has an exquisite balance of being neither too rough like a T-shirt nor too formal like a shirt. Incidentally, the collar placket is also known as a strip of openings. Most shirts are made of cotton knit with a fawn pattern, but others are blended with linen or synthetic fibers for texture and coolness, or are made of milled fabric for elasticity. Because of their excellent sweat absorbency, they are an indispensable standard item for summer.

Polo shirts were invented by René Lacoste, founder of Lacoste

The polo shirt in its current form was invented and popularized by René Lacoste, a French tennis player and founder of the apparel brand Lacoste. One of the French Four Musketeers in tennis and a seven-time Grand Slam champion, he suddenly retired in 1929 at the young age of 25. The cause was tuberculosis. He often caught cold during tennis matches, and he was dissatisfied with the long-sleeved broadcloth shirts with poor sweat absorption, which were the uniform of tennis players. And above all, it was difficult to move around.

He then turned his attention to polo uniforms, which have excellent sweat absorbency and elasticity. When he re-tailored them for tennis competitions and released them, they were a big hit with his tennis friends. Later, it was worn by Simone Thion de la Chaume, a female golfer who was to marry Mr. Lacoste, and it rapidly spread to the golf world as well (because of the above background, it is sometimes called a tennis shirt or golf shirt in Europe and the United States). The story behind the birth of the world’s first polo shirt manufacturer, Lacoste, is one of ” the breaking of old traditions by top athletes. The iconic Lacoste logo, the crocodile mark, was given to Mr. Lacoste in reference to his tenacious style of play, “When it bites, it won’t let go! The crocodile mark is a motif of “The Alligator,” the nickname given to Mr. Lacoste in reference to his tenacious style of play.
