Step Up Your Style Game with Church's Diplomat: A Classic Loved by Bond and Diplomats Alike!

The silhouette of the “Diplomat” by “#173” last, a reissue of the famous “#73”, named after the year Church was founded

The silhouette, characterized by a well-balanced toe that is neither too angular nor too round, is based on Church’s signature last, “#173. The last is based on the “#73,” a former Church’s masterpiece that was named after the year 1873, the year Church was founded. The “#73” disappeared after Prada’s acquisition of the company, but Church’s fans were so clamoring for its return that it was reissued as the “#173” in 2003. While retaining the classic toe shape of the past, the fit has been updated with the modern foot shape in mind.

The toe and instep are low, and the form rises up from the instep. The round toe, which is moderately rounded, typical of English shoes, is designed to have little excess toe for most people, although it is of course compatible.

The toe is also moderately narrowed to provide a firm hold. Although the round nose is slightly longer than in the “#73” model, it still has a classic look that is familiar without being eccentric.

The elegant, sleek silhouette is the most distinctive feature of the “#173” and has won the support of fashionable people not only in the U.K. but also in the U.S., Italy, and other parts of the world. The simple, yet strangely not fussy, neat shape brings out the best of the Diplomat’s charm.
