As the name suggests, these boots with elastic “gores” on both sides were first introduced in the 19th century as short boots for Queen Victoria, who had just ascended to the throne, to make shoes that were easy to put on and take off. The Queen’s husband, Prince Albert, incorporated the design into men’s shoes, which have become the side gore boots of today.
