5 drinks you shouldn’t drink before bed!

The following is an explanation of five drinks to avoid before bed. Unlike food, drinks are easily consumed in large quantities, so it is important to understand the ingredients contained in them.

NG drinks before bed (1) “Carbonated drinks

Many carbonated beverages contain large amounts of sugar, which can cause difficulty in falling asleep and should be avoided. So what about carbonated water that does not contain sugar? Basically, it is fine before brushing your teeth, but lemon and other flavored waters can be harmful to your teeth while you sleep because of their high acidity. Therefore, it is recommended to drink something that does not contain carbonated water right before going to bed. Incidentally, if it is before brushing your teeth, it is OK to drink it as it is expected to help improve the quality of sleep.

NG beverages before bed (2) “Coffee

Most people are probably aware that the caffeine in coffee has a stimulant effect. Coffee, which is popular in many situations such as a cup to wake you up, a break at work, or to improve the efficiency of muscle training, should be finished at least 4 hours before bedtime. The effects of caffeine are felt most in the first 30 minutes to an hour after ingestion, but be aware that it remains in the bloodstream for several hours. If you must drink before bedtime to relax, drink it hot and slowly with milk.

NG beverage before bed ③ “Alcohol

As the saying goes, “a glass of wine before bed”, alcoholic beverages can help you fall asleep, but in fact, it is not recommended to drink even a single glass before bed. The reason is that acetaldehyde is produced during sleep, which causes the sympathetic nervous system to tense up, making it easier to wake up. Furthermore, alcohol increases the amount of urine produced, which can cause you to wake up in the middle of the night. For these reasons, even just one alcoholic drink should be avoided before bed.

NG drinks before bed (4) “Teas

Tea has a relaxing effect, but some types contain caffeine, so be careful. There are decaffeinated types, but basically green tea, black tea, and oolong tea contain caffeine, so it is important to check the package when purchasing. On the contrary, warm barley tea and roasted tea contain pyrazine, an ingredient produced during the roasting process, which has been shown to have a calming effect on the brain and is recommended before bed. If you have trouble suppressing hunger before bed, why not drink warm tea?

NG beverages before bed (5) “Fruit juices

Orange juice and other citrus juices are not appropriate before bed because of their high sugar content and high acidity. Be aware that oranges, lemons, and grapefruits, which are highly acidic, can cause heartburn the next day. If you want to drink fruit juices before bedtime, a glass of grape juice is recommended. Grape juice can be expected to help you get a good night’s sleep and help burn fat, so do not drink too much, but take 100 ml as a rough guide.
