Introducing Psycho Bunny, a mix of New York, British, and Italian elements, and its classic items

Psycho Bunny” develops a world view that combines traditional design with functionality and a rebellious spirit. The brand’s original yet relaxed items add an exquisite accent to adult outfits. In this issue, we focus on “Psycho Bunny” and introduce its charm and standard items!

What is Psychobunny?

Psycho Bunny is a fashion brand originating from New York. It was launched in 2005 by London-born tie designer Robert Godley. Psycho Bunny’s appeal lies in its items that mix traditional British tailoring with stylish Italian-style dressing and cool American casual from New York. The quality of the brand’s iconic neckties and polo shirts, in particular, is superb. In the 10 years since its establishment, Psycho Bunny has gained worldwide popularity, and the number of stores in Japan is increasing.

The meaning of the brand logo that symbolizes Psycho Bunny’s beliefs

Skull & Bones with big rabbit ears. This unique icon, which is reminiscent of the symbols of 17th century English non-patriots, pirates, and 19th century American secret societies, is the identity of the ” Psycho Bunny ” brand. The pirate (skull) is a symbol of adventure and freedom. The teamwork of the captain and other members on board the ship, while respecting the individuality of each member, is a strength of the team.

On the other hand, the hare, which has long been a symbol of luck, is a social animal that always lives in packs. Always alert to its surroundings with its large ears, it disguises its enemies with powerful zigzagging jumps in unexpected directions. The concept and icon of the psycho bunny was designed with the idea that in life, it is important to find a balance between yin and yang, to be honest with one’s inner self and at the same time to seek out who one is through adventure. The symbols of the opposites of pirate and rabbit express a deep love for family and friends, while at the same time having an adventurous spirit in pursuit of freedom.

Who is Psychobunny Designer Robert Godley?

The brand’s founder and designer, Robert Godley, was born on July 7, 1971 in Whitstable, Kent, England. He grew up in London, and at the age of 18, he went to work for David Evans and Company, a 200 year old silk printing company where he learned the art of printing one by one, and after two months, he was able to fill his car with printed fabric and start his own company. Two months later, he packed his car with printed fabrics and traveled to Paris, Zurich, and Como, Italy. He had business meetings with the world’s top fashion manufacturers, brands, and designers. Through this experience, he gradually learned about design, sense of color, and men’s fashion. Because he had many Italian clients, he spent a third of the year in Italy in his early 20s, becoming fluent in the language and developing an aesthetic sense for the Italian quality of life and dress.

Designer Robert Godley

He then trained at Turnbull & Asser and Drakes of London, both long-established British brands, before moving to New York in 2004 as design director of Polo Ralph Lauren’s tie division. In 2005, he founded ” Psycho Bunny ” with his business partner Robert Goldman. The brand has grown into a world-famous brand at a breakneck pace, with the collection being picked up by Barneys New York shortly after its launch.

The appeal of Psycho Bunny polo shirts

Psycho Bunny is a brand with its roots in necktie making, and along with its ties, the brand’s most representative item is its ” polo shirts. The quality of the materials, sewing, and fitting are distinctly different from conventional polo shirts. The polo shirt has a classic feel with a unique sense of humor, but at the same time, it is finished in a way that is typical of Psycho Bunny, which is particular about quality and offers an edgy traditional style.

The use of Pima cotton, famous for its silky feel, makes it more comfortable and softer than conventional cotton. The diamond-patterned deerstalker knitting and sturdy twin yarns (two yarns twisted together) are also used to maintain resilience.

By sewing the taped fabric along the shoulder line, it does not lose its shape even after repeated washing. The beautiful silhouette can be maintained not only at the time of purchase, but also over a long period of use.

The charm of Psycho Bunny is that it is elegant, yet feels like an athlete’s shirt, and looks good from the front as well as the sides. Yet, it does not feel constrictive to the body.

The first tennis shirts had vents at the hem to prevent the shirt from coming out of the pants while playing tennis. Psycho Bunny polo shirts also have vents so that the shirt does not come out of the pants when worn to the office for Cool Biz. Reinforcing tape is sewn into the vent at the hem as well as the shoulder area, and this tape increases durability and flexibility. The shirt can be worn either tucked out or tucked in.

The buttons are shell buttons, which can be found on high-end dress shirts. The smooth interior of the shell is protected by a nacreous layer. This nacreous layer is called the “mother of pearl” because it protects and grows the pearls inside, and it is the best material for buttons because it does not break easily.

It is no exaggeration to say that the brand’s commitment to quality is concentrated in the iconic Psycho Bunny logo: one embroidered logo contains more than 3,000 stitches. The quality of the embroidery is always carefully considered so that the brand’s iconic logo is perfectly represented.

The brand’s polo shirts not only hold their shape after repeated washing, but also have a classic fit, thanks to the use of a twin thread (two threads twisted together) of No. 40 yarn, which is knitted into a 220 grams per square meter diamond-patterned fawn fabric. The fabric boasts overwhelming resilience, with minimal deterioration even after repeated washing and dry cleaning.

The appeal of polo shirts is that they can be enjoyed in different atmospheres depending on the color. In addition to the four core colors, Psycho Bunny offers new colors as needed depending on the season.

Psycho Bunny’s commitment to its iconic ” neckties

The necktie is an essential item for men to complete their gentleman’s style. As a brand that originated from neckties, Psycho Bunny prides itself on its attention to fabric (material) and detailing above all else. In addition, the thorough aesthetic sense of designer Robert Godley, who originally worked for a necktie manufacturer, is carried through. The brand’s iconic neckties are attractive not only in a suit style, but also in a casual tied-up style. Robert Godley himself has even said that they are ” perfect for Japanese people who embody individual coordination.
