LUBIAM, the parent company of LBM 1911, was founded in 1911. The founder, Luigi Bianchi, left home at the age of 16 to pursue his training, following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father. In 1902, Luigi returned to his native town of Mantova, where he married Maria Marchini. Four years later, he opened his dream store, Primaria Sartoria Luigi Bianchi – menswear and women’s dresses and suits. This was the birth of ” Luigi Bianchi Mantova,” a brand named after his name and birthplace. It was also in 1911 that his son Edgardo, who would later establish innovative production methods and be called the “Henry Ford of Italian fashion,” was born.

Luigi Bianchi’s stores quickly attracted European gentlemen. In 1916, Luigi even took orders for the entire wardrobe of the Prince of Wales. While maintaining the quality and the brand’s distinctive features, he introduced a system of mass production that greatly shortened production time. In 1938, a new factory with 500 employees was completed in the suburbs of Mantova. The following year, the label changed its name from Luigi Bianchi Mantova to ” Rubiam,” which was taken only from the initials.

In the 1950s, Giulio Giuli, an advertising genius at the time, came up with the copy “Wearing LIBIAM will make you feel like another. )”, a copy of which created a great sensation. In the 1960s, the company launched an extensive advertising campaign that included billboards, street posters, film advertisements, and radio commercials. The brand was passed on to the third generation, with Giuliano in charge of the production and technical areas and Luigi Jr. managing the entire organization. Luigi Jr. organized an art competition called the ” Rubiam Award ” for students studying at art academies in Italy and other European countries. In 1974, he presented his first collection in collaboration with the great Swiss fashion designer Egon Von Furstenberg at the Plaza Hotel in New York. In 1979, Rubiam USA was established in the U.S. as a foothold for full-fledged global expansion, and from the 1980s to the 1990s, the company expanded overseas one after another.
