Short-length outerwear is one of the most popular items this season. In this issue, we will focus on four major short-length outerwear items: flight jackets, field jackets, riders’ jackets, and down jackets, and introduce some ideas on how to dress them up!
Short-length outerwear (1) “Flight jackets
Flight jackets were worn as actual military wear by the U.S. military and other armies. The high functionality and rugged design of this military outerwear has struck a chord with men, and it is now firmly established as a fashion item and a staple for fall and winter outerwear. The MA-1 is particularly popular among men and women of all ages, and has grown into a major fashion item that can be seen in large numbers on the streets during winter.
If you want to wear the MA-1 in a mature manner, coordinate it with slacks and leather shoes for a dressy mix.
Because the MA-1 has become such a staple today, you want to differentiate yourself from others by the way you wear it. For example, a dress-mix look is an example of a style that can be differentiated from basic styling that is more casual. The combination of slouchy dress pants and leather shoes makes the MA-1 look beautiful and creates a mature impression. Short-length outerwear 2) “Field Jacket
Field jackets such as M-65 and jungle fatigues are also standard short-length outerwear. They come in olive green and khaki shades, which are often used to create easy-to-understand military coordinates.
To make the most of the stiff military look, we recommend styling it in a bold manner by combining it with martial items!
To take full advantage of the “rugged military look” of the field jacket, we recommend wearing it with jeans and boots for a rugged styling. By solidifying your entire body with thick-boned items, you can express a masculine and rugged coordination. Recently, many brands are offering modernized field jackets with unnecessary details stripped off, but for a “stiff” look, I personally prefer to look for old or dead stock military jackets. Even details that are rarely used nowadays, such as cigar pockets on the arms and epaulettes on the shoulders, give an authentic mood and lift one’s spirits.
If armored outerwear doesn’t look good on you, use subtraction to make it look good on you.
Some of you may want to wear military clothing, but think that it doesn’t really suit your character or appearance type…? I am one of those people. I tend to wear my hair long and am often told that I am feminine, but I like field jackets and wear them often. What I do is to use other items to reduce the martial spirit of the jacket. For example, the turtleneck coordinated in this snapshot, or chinos that have no peculiarities in a good sense. I also actively wear field jackets in the fall and winter with this kind of coordination that can subtract the martial spirit.
