What is edox?
EDDOX is one of the oldest brands in the Swiss watch industry. With deep ties to sports, the company offers a diverse collection of hard-looking, high-precision wristwatches. It has also developed high-function divers and the industry’s first world clock, and led the watch industry in the mid-1900s. Although the company has a short history in the Japanese market, its popularity has skyrocketed since it started selling watches in 2007. Today, it is one of the top watch brands in Japan.
History of Edox
edox’s roots began with a love story
Echos was founded in 1884 in Biel-Bienne, a town located at the foot of the Jura Mountains in Switzerland. The company was founded by Christian Rüfli-Flury, a talented watchmaker. The impetus for the company’s founding came from a gift. For his wife’s 25th birthday, Mr. Flury gave her a pocket watch that he had designed and made. This love story from 130 years ago is the origin of Echos.

Creation of the “hourglass”, the official Edox logo
Edox means “time” in ancient Greek. The logo that symbolizes the brand name was created in 1900. The hourglass design was adopted as an enduring symbol, and more than 100 years later, it is still the proud official logo of Edox.
Edox has developed into a major brand with modern equipment
In the 1920s, when pocket watches were the norm, Edox was one of the first brands to enter the wristwatch manufacturing market. The company expanded and by 1955, after the Second World War, employed over 500 watchmakers and its huge factory was considered the most modern in Switzerland.
Edox becomes one of the leading independent Swiss watch brands
In 1983, Echos moved its headquarters from Bienne to its current location in Les Genevais in the Jura. The brand survived the quartz shock and now employs more than 140 people, including 110 qualified watch technicians. In addition, most watch brands today belong to major groups, such as the ” Swatch Group ” of Breguet and Omega, and the ” Richemont Group ” to which Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Panerai belong. Edox also belonged to a group called ASUAG, the predecessor of the Swatch Group, during the quartz shock of the 1970s. However, since becoming independent in the early 1980s, Edox has remained one of the few “independent watch brands” in Switzerland.
Edox has a strong connection with hard sports
The brand has developed many sports-related tough watches and is known for its partnerships with a number of prestigious sports. The brand was an official supporter of Class-1, the pinnacle of powerboat racing, also known as the “Formula 1 of the Seas,” from 2008 to 2014, providing instruments and technology. The “Class-1” watch, inspired by the world view of the Class-1, has been succeeded by the “Chrono Offshore 1,” the current symbolic model of Edox.
From 2010 to 2012, Edox was the official timekeeper of the WRC (World Rally Championship), one of the “world’s three major motor sports” along with the Formula 1 Championship and the World Touring Car Championship, which attracts as many as 5 million spectators a year to watch the races. Delphine, a revolutionary diver’s watch
In the early 1960s, Edox developed the ” double O-ring seal. In 1961, the “Delphine” model, a revolutionary water-resistant watch with a double O-ring, took the world by storm. 2014 marks the 130th anniversary of Edox’s founding and the reissue of the Delphine. The 1970s Delphine has been faithfully reproduced, including the dodecagonal bezel that combines curves and straight lines.
Geoscope, the world’s first world timer
Edox was also the first in the world to showcase a world timer with a display: the ” Geoscope,” introduced in 1971, had a map of the world as seen from the South Pole on the dial and a 24-hour GMT function on the inner bezel. The universal watch, which also featured day/night and sun indications, was immensely popular for its innovative multifunctionality and unique design. Like the Delphine, a reissue collection was launched in 2014. It was designed after the original model and was limited to 300 pieces.
Les Bemons “, the world’s thinnest dress watch
The classic ” Les Bemons ” watch, introduced in 1998, was the thinnest dress watch in the world. The watch’s 1.4mm thickness with calendar movement is still the thinnest in the world today.
The Chrono Offshore 1, the flagship model of Edox
The Chrono Offshore 1, one of Edox’s most popular watches, is a high-specification watch designed to withstand the harsh conditions of powerboat racing, which takes place on the water at speeds of 257 kilometers per hour.
The high-tech ceramic bezel boasts a hardness equivalent to that of sapphire. It prevents corrosion and deformation and is highly resistant to scratches. In addition to its durability, it also has a glossy finish that preserves the watch’s appearance beautifully.
The carbon fiber used for the dial is a lightweight material often used for the hulls of power boats. It gives the watches a sense of speed and luxury not found in other watches. All models in the Chrono Offshore 1 collection are highly water resistant to 300 meters or more, and models water resistant to 500 meters or more are equipped with a helium gas escape bubble for authentic diver’s specifications.

While masculine and powerful watches like the Chrono Offshore 1 tend to attract the attention of the public, the quality of Edox’s dress watches is actually outstanding as well. The ” Les Vauvert ” collection, named after the birthplace of Swiss watchmaking, is a perfect match for a suit and tie.
The dials, which pay homage to the Swiss watchmaking tradition, have a simple design that will never grow old. The narrow space between the dial and the glass surface suggests the high precision of the machining process. The three-dimensional applied indexes combine a sense of luxury with legibility.
The slim bezel gives the dial a strong presence. The turban-shaped crown, which looks smart and is easy to operate, is a traditional shape often used in classic dress watches.
As a tribute to its predecessors, the caseback is engraved with the oldest watchmaking structure of historical value in the Jura Mountains and the year 1685, when watchmaking began.

Design

Case
