Data Bank is Casio’s masterpiece, the world’s first wristwatch to feature

CASIO DATABANK (CASIO DATABANK) is one of the watches developed and released by Casio Computer Co. Casio is now well known as a watch manufacturer thanks to the success of its G-Shock and other products, but it was originally a calculator sales company that launched its first electronic organizer in 1983, and the following year, in January 1984, launched the ” CD-40-1/CD-401-1″ data bank as a watch with a telephone directory function. Launched as a watch that did not require a telephone directory, the Data Bank was equipped with a data bank function that could store and recall 10 sets of 16-digit alphabets and numbers. It was a revolutionary item as the world’s first wristwatch that could store information.

At the time, the Data Bank had a phonebook memory of 10 entries, which was soon increased to 50 entries in the DB-500 series and other models. In 1984 alone, 10 models were released in Japan. With each new model released, additional functions were added, and a variety of models were released in the past, including calculator functions, train timetable management functions, radio-controlled clock data banks, kanji data banks that can convert kanji characters, photo shooting data banks, voice recording data banks, digital analog models, data banks for kids, and optical communication capable models. Some of the models of the time were reminiscent of today’s smartwatches, such as the touch panel data bank with no buttons. While past models are still very popular, the DB-360-1AJF andDB-36-1AJF are still being sold as new models.
