Seneta Meissen’s new ‘Cherry Blossom’ collectionA timepiece with a porcelain dial featuring hand-painted motifs of Japan’s winter cherry blossoms
In the Japanese fall, nature weaves a particularly beautiful scene. These are the winter cherry blossoms, including the Japanese “October cherry blossoms” that begin to bloom in October. The delicate white and pink flowers create a beautiful contrast with the vividly colored autumn foliage, giving rise to a charm unique to this season. It is precisely because this beauty does not last forever that this fleeting moment shines all the more brilliantly.Meissen and Glashütte Original have captured the beauty of the cherry blossoms in timepieces that will continue to mark the passage of time long after the season has passed. The new Seneta Meissen “Cherry Blossom,” featuring hand-painted flowers adorning a white porcelain dial, is an exquisite mechanical watch that brings together the artistry and expertise of these two brands, both deeply rooted in tradition.
What is Seneta Meissen?A Glashütte Original Atelier model hand-painted by a painter from the Meissen porcelain brand
Seneta Meissen is one of Glashütte Original’s special atelier models, created in collaboration with the prestigious German porcelain brand Meissen. Both brands have long embodied the pinnacle of German craftsmanship in their respective fields. Each watch is assembled from start to finish by a single watchmaker, but the exquisite porcelain dial is manufactured in Meissen’s workshop rather than in Glashütte. The colors of the delicate floral motifs are created by Meissen’s Color Laboratory, which preserves secret color formulas passed down through generations. The cherry blossom motifs, which stand out against the pale background, are hand-painted one by one by skilled painters using ultra-fine brushes. The dial painting is fired in a kiln at 900°C after each layer of color is applied, resulting in rich depth and vivid colors.

The Craftsmanship Behind the New ‘Cherry Blossom’ CollectionA Fusion of Meissen’s Botanical Decorative Traditions, Passed Down Since the 18th Century, and Glashütte’s Craftsmanship
Since ancient times, high-end porcelain has featured motifs inspired by nature. At Meissen—Europe’s first porcelain manufactory—botanical motifs were already being painted on pieces as early as the 18th century. Initially, motifs from the Far East, influenced by Chinese porcelain, dominated; however, familiar flowers and plants were eventually added to the repertoire, and the cherry blossom became a particularly beloved motif due to its elegant and delicate beauty. The new Seneta Meissen “Cherry Blossom” features delicate cherry blossoms painted on the dial. The fusion of the technical expertise and craftsmanship shared by these two traditional brands—Glashütte Original and Meissen—has given rise to a highly original timepiece featuring the cherry blossom motif.
The Mechanism of the New ‘Cherry Blossom’”A 40mm red gold case housing the in-house ‘Caliber 36’ movement
Behind the simple two-hand display of the new Seneta Meissen “Cherry Blossom” lies an intricate mechanical movement. The in-house Caliber 36 is a special self-winding movement that combines precision and durability with a 100-hour power reserve and exquisite finishing. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and features a silicon balance spring that is resistant to temperature changes and magnetic fields. When the crown is pulled out, the seconds-stopping mechanism halts the balance wheel, allowing for precise time setting.Through the sapphire crystal case back, one can fully appreciate the movement’s exquisite decorative finishes, including the refined ribbed finish of the Glashütte 3/4 plate, the hand-engraved balance cock, and the sunburst finish on the hand-wound chain wheel.Above it, a skeletonized rotor made of solid gold and adorned with the double “G” logo rotates in both directions.
To showcase this ultra-thin porcelain dial to its fullest, the overall design of the watch is deliberately understated.A slim 40mm red gold case frames the hand-painted Meissen dial, while solid gold hour and minute hands accentuate its artistic beauty. A dark blue Louisiana alligator strap with a red gold buckle completes this elegant timepiece. This highlights the two key aspects of the new Seneta Meissen “Cherry Blossom”: the delicate porcelain painting and the intricately decorated movement.
