Every year, New Balance celebrates “Grey Day” to honor the brand’s enduring design and legacy of the iconic color “grey. This year’s Grey Day is set for Friday, May 12, with the launch of the classic “Moon Daze” collection in grey. The lineup will be based on the question, “What if New Balance was the first sneaker on the moon? What would the shoes look like after walking on the moon?” The lineup includes the “550,” “580,” “90/60,” and “Fresh Foam x More Trail v3,” which were born from the idea of “What if New Balance was the first sneaker on the moon? The upper and sole of each shoe have been specially treated to look as if they have actually walked on the moon, and are available in the “Moon Daze” collection’s exclusive colors.

The “550” is a reissue of a competitive basketball shoe released in the 1980s. The upper is made of various materials, such as light gray nubuck, suede, leather, and mesh, to create a three-dimensional effect. In addition, the grippy rubber outsole is blended with rubber tips for improved walking performance. Special processing is applied to the sole sole back and the entire upper.

Based on the “580” trail running model introduced in 1996, this pair represents “Moon Dust. The midsole is equipped with ROLLBAR for excellent stability when landing, and the outsole features a rugged sole with excellent grip. This model features the thickest and softest “Fresh Foam x” in the series’ history, a “Fresh Foam” midsole material that supports comfortable running. The highly stretchable engineered mesh upper provides high breathability while comfortably wrapping the foot. In addition, the thick midsole is designed with a two-layer structure to provide both cushioning and stability. In addition, the toe portion features “TOE PROTECT” to protect the toe area under trail conditions, and the outsole is made of “Vibram Eco-Step EVO,” an eco-friendly material.
