Diesel Art Gallery to hold solo exhibition by artist Melody Nakanishi! Collaboration items will also be available!

From January 22 (Sat) to April 21 (Thu), 2022, DIESEL ART GALLERY, a gallery owned by the lifestyle brand DIESEL, will hold an exhibition of works by up-and-coming graphic designer/artist ” Rei Nakanishi ” that is currently attracting attention both in Japan and abroad. The solo exhibition “TREE OF LIFE” by “Rei Nakanishi” will be held from April 21 (Sat.) to April 21 (Thu.).

Who is Rei Nakanishi, the creator of ” TREE OF LIFE “?

Born in 1994, Rei Nakanishi moved to the U.S. in 2016 and began creating artwork while working as an assistant to NY-based artist Reki Yamaguchi. He has been actively participating in group exhibitions in Japan and abroad, presenting his works. He is still a member of ” GOLD WOOD ART WORKS ” led by Reki Yamaguchi. His style of production is a fusion of the unique expression of painting with the characteristics of acrylics and printing techniques based on his experience as a graphic designer. He continues to produce his works while seeking a unique contemporary style of painting.

The following is a statement from Mr. Melody Nakanishi.

While truly confronting the context of art history, I continue to work daily with the aim of updating the context of painting with my own thoughts and techniques.
My work is completed by the coexistence of opposing themes on a single canvas, overlaying analog and digital techniques, as in the dualistic view of “life and death” and “the past and the future.”

I define analog as a process of layering paint to create depth, working directly on canvas or panel, using spray, acrylic pigment, and crayon materials, but without regard to medium. The analog process of developing free lines and surfaces, left to his own senses, contains a physical element of his own senses and body.

The other is digital. The other is digital. Facing the representation through the computer, the artist materializes the motif by creating his own latent image in computer graphics. This process brings about the visualization of a world of infinite expanse and subtlety invisible to the naked eye, and at times functions as a calming device that separates the artist from his work and gives it objectivity.

The two patterns created by these two completely different processes are fused together using contemporary techniques to create a single work of art.
