Levi’s® Vintage Clothing celebrates the birthday of jeans on May 20th by changing the red tab to “LeVI’S® (aka Small e )” specification, and will reissue the 1971 model 501® “Golden Ticket 501®” in a limited edition of 501 pieces worldwide. The red tab of this model is a lottery wrapped in gold leaf, and a special model with “LEVI’S®︎ (a.k.a. Big E)” specifications will appear in a limited edition of 501 pieces. On May 20, the birthday of jeans, Levi’s® Vintage Clothing will release the “Golden Ticket 501®,” a reissue of the 1971 model 501®, in a limited edition of 501 pieces worldwide. In addition, five limited editions of the 501s will be available with the “red tab” sewn on the right back pocket changed to the pre-1971 version nicknamed “Big E.” All 501s will be available with the red tab sewn on the right back pocket changed to the pre-1971 version nicknamed “Big E.” The “Golden Ticket 501®” will be available in a limited edition of 501s. All 501s on sale will have the red tab wrapped in gold foil as a “lottery,” a playful device that can be peeled off after purchase to see which design is which.
The 1971 model 501® is being reissued for the first time at Levi’s® Vintage Clothing. The fabric used is selvedge denim from the White Oak factory of Corn Mills, Inc. in the U.S., which closed in 2017. The 1971 model to be reissued this time features a slightly slimmer, rounder waist and a silhouette that tapers toward the hem compared to the 1966 model before the red tab specification was changed. Other features include the unwashed raw “shrink-to-fit®” jeans, the paper patch without the XX notation nicknamed “Double X,” and the fact that no sanforized finish is applied.
