New Moon Watch from OMEGA and Swatch is "NEW MOON" with a "new moon" motif

The “Bioceramic MoonSwatch” collection, an innovative collaboration between OMEGA and Swatch, has created quite a stir. The “NEW MOON” watch, the counterpart to the “FULLMOON” watch in the new “MISSION TO THE MOONPHASE” collection that was recently launched on March 26, 2024, will be released on April 8, 2024. The “NEW MOON” watch will be released on April 8, 2024 (Monday).

It is still fresh in our minds that the FULLMOON watch, which was released to much attention as a pure white representation of a full moon, has been contrasted by the all-black NEW MOON watch. As the name suggests, the design expresses a new moon, and the moon phases are still visible and hidden by a translucent black mask in the black base color. The base design is still the same as Omega’s famous ” Speedmaster Moonwatch.

Snoopy, the astronaut’s lucky charm, is on the subdial at 2 o’clock!

Like the previous FULLMOON, this NEW MOON watch also has a moon phase on the subdial at 2 o’clock with a lovable Snoopy figure lying on the moon. The reason why the watch features Snoopy’s design is because he is NASA’s mascot and is considered a lucky charm among astronauts. The genesis of Snoopy’s becoming so was the Apollo 10 mission in May 1969. The Apollo 10 mission was a pre-verification mission to rehearse the lunar landing, and it had to ” snoop ” around the surface of the moon to determine the landing site for Apollo 11. For this reason, the lunar module was named Snoopy. Since then, Snoopy has been treasured as a talisman among astronauts. The crescent moon and star contain quotes from Snoopy’s comics, and the luminescent paint makes the words appear in the dark.

Another incident occurred during the Apollo 13 mission in 1970, when an oxygen tank exploded, endangering the lives of the astronauts. The crew faced many challenges, including a scene where they had to time the 14-second engine firing time needed to return to Earth. Fortunately, they were wearing OMEGA’s ” Speedmaster Moonwatch ” chronograph watch and successfully completed the task. The ” Bioceramic MoonSwatch MISSION TO THE MOONPHASE,” which is based on the same OMEGA model, contains various episodes related to the moon like this.
