About Emergency Firefighting Teams
In the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake of 1995, many firefighters from fire departments across Japan rushed to the scene to rescue and extinguish fires and save lives. Subsequently, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications established the “Emergency Firefighting Assistance Team” system in order to provide firefighters with wide-area support more quickly and effectively, and in the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, 8,854 teams with 30, 684* personnel were dispatched to work hard in the disaster area.
