Shuhei Nishiguchi of BEAMS F explains trends! Five techniques to dress stylishly for the fall/winter season!

Trend Explanation 2: “The key to the “casual look” of today is to find the right balance between outerwear and pants!

After the skinny boom of a few years ago, oversized and other loose-fitting styles are trending this season. However, the difficulty with this trend is that simply wearing items “loosely” can give an unrefined impression. Mr. Nishiguchi says that it is important to be aware of certain points in order to successfully incorporate the “casual” look.

A slightly loose balance has been attracting attention in recent years. In fact, this trend has penetrated this season’s dress styles only in the silhouette of outerwear and the waist of pants, to take it to the extreme. So what exactly has changed compared to a few years ago? I will give you the key points from my point of view on each of them.

The art of expressing a modern, relaxed style of dressing “Oversized outerwear & long lengths below the knee are very current!”

The silhouette of outerwear is now mostly A-line with a wider hem. The length should be below the knee, in other words, over 100cm. Just by wearing such outerwear with a slightly rounded, loose balance on the shoulders, you can achieve a more modern look.

For example, here’s a good example…
This is an
orthodox gray suit with a long wool trench coat below the knee. The coat’s heavy wool fabric and clean A-line silhouette give the royal style a more stylish look.

This is the long-length coat of the 2018/19AW season! Corduroy trench coat by GRENFELL

“GRENFELL” is a long-established outerwear brand with a history of over 100 years. It has earned a high reputation from the industry through reliable manufacturing with a thorough understanding of classic styles.

Until a few years ago, coats with a rather tight fitting and above-the-knee length were the mainstream, but in the past few years, when the return to the classic style has been attracting attention, coats have come closer to their original dowdy size and long length. The same trend applies to military items. This season, I believe that BEAMS has been able to develop a collection that strongly reflects this trend. One such collection item is this trench coat made of heavy corduroy fabric. The buckles, buttons, and other details make this a gem.

The art of expressing a modern, loose-fitting style: “The promise of this season is to wear pants with a loose fit around the waist!

Mr. Shuhei Nishiguchi, BEAMS F
The only place to introduce yuletide into pants is around the waist. No matter how much room there is at the waist, the hem width is almost the same as it was a few years ago; most are around 18 cm. And beltless pants, which have been secretly appearing for several years, will probably be the focus of attention this season. Pants with side adjusters to adjust the waist, such as those introduced above, are being introduced by various brands all at once.

For example, pants like these! PT01 beltless pants”

“PT01 (PT Zero Uno)” is a brand specializing in pants launched by COVER in 2008. Domenico Gianfrarte, who is well known in fashion snapshots, has been appointed as the director of the brand since the 2018 SS, and the brand is expanding its power more and more.

These beltless pants feature a Gurkha pants-like placket design. The two-pleat detail that enhances the dressy mood is also good. The gold buckle adds a classic touch.
