In 1908, Marquis M. Converse founded the ” Converse Rubber Shoe Company ” in Massachusetts, USA. At the time, the company manufactured rubber shoes used for work in the rain and snow, and Converse shoes were primarily in demand during the winter. However, Converse felt the need to ensure year-round sales, and in 1917 developed the ” Canvas All Star ” as a basketball shoe; the All Star, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017, is said to be the best-selling sneaker in the world and is known by all as the “Royal Road to Sneakers. It is still absolutely popular today.

The name comes from a basketball player

The Converse All Star alias Chuck Taylor comes from the name of Mr. Charles H. Taylor, a star basketball player at the time. Mr. Taylor fell in love with the quality of the All Star as soon as he joined the professional league and used it throughout his playing career. After his retirement, he continued to visit basketball teams all over the United States, spreading the name to many players. He also gave advice on shoe improvements based on his own experience using the shoes. In honor of his achievements, Mr. Taylor’s name has been on the All-Star logo since 1946. Chuck Taylor is said to be the world’s first basketball shoe signature model.
