How to Wrap & Wear Stole

A stole is an item that elevates an outfit. There are a wide variety of scarves, from dressy silk ones to casual ones with fringes, and there are countless variations including the length and the way to wrap them. In this issue, we focus on stoles and introduce some of the hottest items and outfits!

Pick up the characteristics of stoles!

Knit fabrics with thicker fabrics are originally called scarves, but nowadays they are often confused and called stoles. In this issue, we pick up the characteristics of stoles, including scarves!

Stole Characteristic #1: “Adding an accent with a three-dimensional look

As one of the elements to add accent to plain styles, three-dimensionality would be a strong choice. In men’s fashion, however, there are few items that can create a three-dimensional look. In the case of women’s fashion, there are many items that can create a three-dimensional silhouette, such as ruffles and lace details, but in the case of men’s fashion, the mainstream items are basic items that are just the right size, so they tend to be worn without a three-dimensional look. On the other hand, a scarf can create a three-dimensional effect with a single item.

Stole feature #2: “Easy to put on, take off, and change the way it is wrapped, making it useful in seasons with large temperature differences.”

Stoles are not only easy to put on and take off, but unlike jackets, they can be compactly stored in a bag. If you do not carry a bag, you can adjust the temperature by changing the way you wrap it around your body.

Characteristic 3) “A single stole can express a variety of outfits depending on how it is wrapped.”

There are as many as 60 or 70 different ways to wrap a stole, so there is no shortage of variations. Even if we limit ourselves to the standard men’s wraps, there are six different wraps, which is a lot more varied than a standard necktie, and one stole can be used for a wide variety of outfits.

Characteristic #4: “Stoles are frequently used from suits to casual wear!

With the exception of damaged cotton and linen stoles and extremely shiny silk stoles that are worn with tuxedos, stoles in general can be used for a wide range of outfits, from suits and jackets to casual wear.

Characteristic #5: “Can be expected to cover the body shape.”

Large or thick scarves can be used to create volume around the neck and make the face look smaller. If you want to cover up a fat or short stature, you can make yourself look slimmer than you actually are or create an appearance that makes your short stature less noticeable by wrapping the scarf in a way that emphasizes the vertical line, such as by draping it around your body.
