In the 1980s, Ralph Lauren began to solidify its position as a top brand by opening stores overseas and having Ralph Lauren appear on the cover of Time magazine. The brand also began to expand into Japan, where it landed as a brand that expressed the elegance and affluence of America as it did in its own style.
