What is Casa Loewe Ginza, a fusion of Spanish sensibility and Japanese design? The interior is inspired by the former Ginza! A store full of attractions with works by famous artists placed throughout.
Rooted in Casa Loewe’s design concept of combining the intimacy of an art collector’s mansion with a sophisticated retail space, ” Casa Loewe Ginza” will fuse Spanish sensibilities with Japanese design. The hand-crafted muddy green ceramic tiles have an irregular appearance and slight indentations in the glaze applied to the surface, creating changes in color and reflections of light. This deep muddy green harkens back to the past, when Ginza was once a low marshy area spread out at the tip of Edo-maejima Island. The ceramic tiles on the exterior continue into the interior, bringing color and brilliance to the concrete space. A variety of marbles dot the interior. Brass window frames convey another past of Ginza, where minting centers for the production of silver and gold coins were located. The central staircase is surrounded by green ceramic tiles, and is connected vertically across all four floors by a curved, hand-crafted wooden handrail. Natural light fills the store, enhancing the harmony of the different textures of stone, wood, ceramic, and concrete. To coincide with the opening, Casa Loewe Ginza will release the new hammock “Flip” in the store’s limited edition “Light Ghost” color.
The furnishings also bring warmth and calm to the store. George Nakashima’s “Mira Chair” and “Cushion Chair” and Herit Thomas Rietveld’s “Utrecht Armchair” are paired with the delicacy of Isamu Noguchi’s “Akari E Pendant Lamp.” In addition to the placement of Loewe’s signature designs such as the bulging leather bench, the black iron martini table, and the burnt wood podium, the Loewe Reclaimed Coffee Table, a one-of-a-kind piece created by reusing 95% of the surplus leather generated in Loewe’s atelier, is striking. It celebrates the beauty of materials that have been given new life through the quest for sustainability and innovation. Underfoot, a custom-made carpet woven in Spain reinterprets bright, abstract tapestries such as “Orkney Landscape Sunset” and “Autumn in Orkney” by British textile designer John Allen.
The collections on display on the four floors of “Casa Loewe Ginza” also vary. Art, craft, and design from around the world, including two lamps Loewe presented at Milano Salone 2024, will be on display on the first floor, including Ansea Hamilton’s ” Kimono Lamp,” a luminous garment-like piece made from lacquered wood and frosted glass. A neon work by Kerith Wynne Evans hangs from the ceiling on the fourth floor and can be seen outdoors through the windows. Other works by Lucy Lee, Elliot Hodgkin, Hilton Nell, Ovidiu Maitek, and Albert York will be on display, as well as a distorted image-like ceramic work by Japanese artist Kunimasa Aoki, winner of the “LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2025,” that will be placed in the second floor window. Realm of Living Things 19,” a distorted ceramic work by Japanese artist Kunimasa Aoki, the grand prize winner of the “LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2025. Also, ” Basket 6,” a leather work by bamboo craftsman Hafu Matsumoto, combines traditional techniques with contemporary artistry. Textural ceramic vases by Kazunori Hamana, created in collaboration with kintsugi craftsman Yukiko Kuroda, embody the spirit of Japanese restoration techniques.
