Skateboarding shoes equipped with ASICS’s proud “GEL” technology are finally born!

ASICS has finally entered the skateboarding category. Sneaker lovers know the “GEL” equipped “GEL-FLEXKEE PRO” and “GEL-FLEXKEE GEL-FLEXKEE PRO” and “GEL-FLEXKEE” are now available at instant online store and instant stores.

ASICS’ first skateboarding shoes are the result of a collaboration between ASICS Sports Engineering Laboratory and medalist candidates!

Skateboarding has been attracting more and more attention since it was newly adopted as an official sport at the Tokyo Olympics. The two models of skateboarding shoes were developed by analyzing the movements of skateboarders at the ASICS Sports Engineering Laboratory and incorporating the opinions of skateboarder Takasaki Nakamura, who is expected to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

The outsole features a series of grooves on the outside front of the shoe. In order to accommodate skateboarding, which requires fine movement of the front part of the foot, a series of grooves have been provided on the outsole of the front part of the shoe to enhance flexibility to follow the foot’s movement. In addition, ASICS’s famous “GEL” is placed from the center of the heel to the inner side of the shoe. This design makes it easier to maintain balance on the board while easing the load when landing on the ground.

The upper is designed with an asymmetrical inner and outer design of the footpad, and the outer area of the instep, which is in frequent contact with the board, is shaped to have a wider area. While maintaining a snug fit along the instep, it is easier to feel the board in contact with the foot, allowing for more sensitive riding. In addition, the shape of the dove and the folded tongue structure make it difficult for the laces to break, and other durability features have also been considered. The front upper of the GEL-FLEXKEE PRO is made of a polyurethane resin used in ASICS tennis shoes to further enhance abrasion resistance.
