What is the charm of "CONSUL," Church's famous shoes loved by British politicians?

Classic and modern consul silhouette using Church’s signature last “#173

The last used for the “Consul” is “#173. It is characterized by a well-balanced toe silhouette that is neither too round nor too square. The “#73” last, a semi-square toe last, was the signature of the Church until it was acquired by the Prada Group in 1999.

Until the mid-1980s, Church’s shoes were so coveted in Japan that it was said that when it came to British shoes, it was neither John Robb nor Edward Green, but Church’s. The Church’s shoes were so popular during this period that many people were enthusiastic about them. Because of the enthusiastic fans of Church shoes from this period, there is a tendency to distinguish Church shoes before the Prada acquisition as “Old Church” or “Old Church” and Church shoes after the Prada acquisition as “New Church”. However, it is also true that after the Prada acquisition, Church added a mode element to its traditional rustic image and gained new customers. The fact that the new Church is still one of the most popular in the U.K. nearly 20 years after the acquisition is the best proof that the new Church’s strategy was the right one.

The new Church developed the “#100” last in 2000. Later, in 2003, in response to requests for the revival of the “#73,” the reissue of the “#173” was announced. While inheriting the toe shape of the original #73, the #173 was updated for the modern foot shape. The instep is set slightly lower, and the shoe fits snugly when the foot is placed in the shoe. The new Church was a success, maintaining the original classic look and feel while providing comfort.
