The chronograph is a coined word for a wristwatch with a stopwatch function, and Seiko introduced a high-precision stopwatch at the time of the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, realizing measurements to the nearest 0.01 second, which had previously been considered impossible to measure. Five years after producing Japan’s first “crown chronograph” in 1964, Seiko’s passion for accurate timekeeping was reflected in the “1969 Speed Timer,” the world’s first automatic chronograph equipped with a vertical clutch mechanism that realized a compact and stable movement hand. The technology was also reflected in the 1969 Speed Timer. The reissue of this model in 2021 has rekindled the popularity of the Speedtimer and has become a hot topic of conversation. Speed Timer “Mechanical Chronograph” and “Solar Chronograph
The Seiko “Speed Timer” belongs to a brand within Seiko called “Prospex,” which is equipped with authentic functions for diving, trekking, and other outdoor activities.
