Collaboration with Fendi! What are the three characteristics of Kurume-made sneakers by MOONSTAR?

Three features that Moonstar sneakers boast

Characteristic of Moonstar’s sneakers (1) “Durable and unbreakable vulcanized manufacturing method

The vulcanizing method is one of Moonstar’s signature sneaker manufacturing techniques. This manufacturing method, also known as vulcanization, uses a chemical reaction in which sulfur is added to raw rubber and heated to change it into rubber with elasticity and strength. The sole and upper are strongly bonded, making them strong and resistant to breakage, and because adhesion and molding are done simultaneously, they do not easily lose their shape. On the other hand, the process is too labor-intensive, resulting in low productivity, and fewer and fewer Japanese manufacturers are using the full-scale vulcanization method. MoonStar, however, has been using the vulcanization method for a long time, and its skilled craftsmen mold the soles by hand, one by one. The sole is then thermally reacted in a kiln called a vulcanizer to create an elastic and strong sneaker.

Characteristics of Moonstar sneakers (2) “Expert sewing techniques and carefully selected domestic materials

MoonStar utilizes patterns and skilled sewing techniques that have been studied over a long history to create three-dimensional shoes that fit the foot from a flat fabric. By using rubber glue to laminate the outer and lining fabrics, a beautiful silhouette that matches the human foot is achieved. In addition, all materials from uppers to laces are made in Japan.

One of the features is that the insoles are printed with the words “MADE IN KURUME” with confidence and pride in the fact that they are made in Kurume.

Characteristic of Moonstar sneakers (3) “Rolled soles for comfort

Moonstar’s “rolled sole” fits the shape of the foot, providing a comfortable fit that wraps around the foot. Low-tech sneakers in general use a manufacturing method called “molded soles,” in which only the sole is vulcanized first and then bonded to the upper. In contrast, Moonstar’s “rolled soles” are made by hollowing out a sheet of rubber in the shape of a foot for each pair and vulcanizing it at the same time as the upper to ensure a snug fit. In addition, the durability, cushioning, and resistance to peeling are enhanced by changing the rubber compound in different locations.
