What is “Dr. Martens”, a shoe brand popular for its unique details?
Dr. Martens is a brand founded in 1945 by Klaus Maertens, a doctor who belonged to the German army. It was born when 25-year-old Dr. Klaus Maertens, who was engaged in military service in postwar Munich, invented an air-cushioned sole for rehabilitation by processing an old tire. The company then commercialized boots with air-cushioned soles in 1960, which gained popularity among young people in the 1970s when rock stars, punks, skinheads, and others patronized them. The air-cushioned sole, yellow stitching on the welt, and other unique details that other shoe manufacturers do not have, make them still popular in many countries around the world.
