Introducing the Dr. Martens Loafer! Look out for the iconic polished uppers and rubber soles!

Dr. Martens is famous for its boots, but the brand also offers many attractive models of loafers. The details unique to Dr. Martens, such as original polished leather and bouncing soles, are still present in loafer models. This time, we focus on Dr. Martens loafers and introduce recommended models!

Innovative shoe-making technologies such as bouncing soles and the pressure-bonded Goodyear welt method are also incorporated into loafers “(Dr. Martens)”.

Dr. Martin was founded in 1945 by Klaus Martin, a doctor in the German army. It all started when Klaus Martin, who injured his ankle while skiing in the Alps in the Bavaria region during his vacation, developed a cushioned rubber sole by processing an old tire for rehabilitation.

These rubber soles absorbed the shock of walking by trapping air inside the sole, resulting in a bouncy gait known as ” bouncing. The first model of the 8-hole boot went on the production line at a small factory in England on April 1, 1960. The 8-hole boot, still an icon of the brand today, is named “1460” after that memorable date. Later, rock stars such as “The Beatles” and “The Rolling Stones” wore the boots, and the brand became established as a boot brand loved by musicians. Now, more than half a century after their appearance, they are supported all over the world regardless of generation.

In addition to the bouncing sole, Dr. Martens has a variety of other iconic details. The yellow stitching used to attach the sole, known as the pressure-bonded Goodyear welt method, the strap attached to the heel, and the polished smooth leather with a unique sheen are all unique to Dr. Martens. These details are used throughout the loafer models as well. Some models use black stitching instead of yellow stitching, while others use a new type of EVA sole instead of a bouncing sole to reduce weight. In addition to loafers that are instantly recognizable as Dr. Martens, there is also a choice of models that are more dressy or specialized in functionality.

Dr. Martens’ go-to loafers!

Dr. Martens ADRIAN” loafer, a representative loafer of Dr. Martens that combines a design with a strong presence and robustness.

The ADRIAN, the first tassel loafer manufactured at the Cobbs Lane factory in the U.K. in the 1980s, has a stately design typical of Dr. Martens, and the technology cultivated in boot manufacturing has been lavishly applied. Both the upper and sole are extremely sturdy and can withstand a little rain.

The moccasin’s stitching is also assertive, employing the ” ogamocha ” method of sewing by pasting two pieces of leather together. Unlike ordinary loafers, the stitching is not only parallel, but also wraps around in a circular stitching technique, which is very original and characteristic of Dr. Martens.

The upper is made of Dr. Martens’ original “Polished Smooth” leather. The smooth surface of the material has a strong luster due to the polished finish applied to the surface. It is also characterized by its high durability and excellent resistance to water.

The silhouette is moderately balanced with a round toe and a deep vamp. The area where bare feet are visible is narrower than that of ordinary loafers, giving them a crisp, dress-shoe-like appearance. The absence of a heel loop, which is a familiar feature of Dr. Martens boots, also contributes to the dressier look.

Dr. Martens is also famous for its use of the Goodyear welt method for joining soles. However, unlike the British brands that use cork and shanks, Dr. Martens uses a unique method called ” pressure-bonded Goodyear welt method. The inside of the shoe is made of felt instead of cork, and the unique “Z-welt” sewing process provides superior durability. In addition, the three-dimensional outer circumference of the shoe gives it a strong presence. The boots model has the symbolic yellow stitching on the outer circumference, but it is elegant in that it is not used on purpose. The storm welt placed along the upper is an accent.

The Air Wair bouncing sole with air cushioning, which is the origin and symbol of Dr. Martens, is also used in the loafer model. It has an impression of being heavy and hard, but in fact it is soft and has excellent cushioning. Although the sole is slightly heavy, it does not cause fatigue even when walking for long periods of time, as it sends the foot forward like a pendulum.

Dr. Martens’ new loafer “Dr. Martens EDISON” evolved with an ultra-lightweight sole unit.

The EDISON is an evolution of the classic ADRIAN model and an ultra-lightweight tassel loafer, a pair categorized in the “DM’sLite” collection introduced in 2016. It retains the yellow stitching design and essential DNA, while incorporating a variety of the latest technologies, including a high-tech, lightweight midsole and comfort-oriented insole.

The quilted tongue, double tassels, and U-shaped stitching on the ogamocha mocca follow the design of the ADRIAN, the royal model. The major difference is that the upper is made of Temperley leather instead of polished smooth. Temperley leather is aniline-finished soft smooth leather with a glossy finish. Temperley leather is less shiny than polished smooth leather and has a moist sheen. In addition to the natural texture of the leather, one of its charms is its ability to change over time.

The most important factor contributing to the lightweight design is the high-tech Phylon midsole. This new sole uses EVA material, which has never been used in Dr. Martens before, and reduces the overall weight of the shoe by one-third. Although not made with the pressure-bonded Goodyear welt method, the yellow stitching still maintains the “Dr. Martens” look. Despite their heavy appearance, they are surprisingly light when you actually put them on your feet.

The insole features “SoftWair” technology, which uses a moisture-absorbent, low-resilience material. It has cushioning in the toe and heel areas that provides a snug fit and absorbs shock. It also removes moisture for maximum comfort.

While the width of the opening and silhouette differ from the ADRIAN, the main difference is the detailing of the quilted tongue, which is a few millimeters longer than the tassel. This makes the toe visible narrower, and in combination with the wider toe, gives the impression of a short nose.
