Seven reasons why Adidas' "Superstar" remains a timeless classic.

History of “adidas,” a manufacturer that attracts athletes and fashionistas alike

Shoe manufacturer founded by German brothers that later became ” adidas ” and ” Puma

Adidas is a well-known global sports manufacturer. Its roots go back more than 100 years to Germany, where Adidas founder Adolf Dassler was born in 1900 in the Bavarian town of Herzogenaurach, the son of a shoemaker. Influenced by his father, Adolf began training as a shoemaker as a young man, and upon his return from World War I in 1920, he started producing sports shoes in his mother’s laundry room. 1924, his brother Rudolf Dassler joined the business and founded the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory ( Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik).

Adolf, a talented shoemaker, was in charge of manufacturing shoes, while Rudolf, with his sales acumen, was in charge of sales. The Dassler brothers’ name became widely known after athletes wearing their shoes performed well at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam and the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. In the 1930s, Adolf Hitler came to power. In order to continue doing business under the Nazi regime during World War II, one had to be a member of the Nazi Party. The Dassler brothers also joined the Nazi Party, but it was at this time that the gap between the brothers widened greatly.

While Adolf, a shoemaker, was left behind to produce boots for the Wehrmacht, Rudolf was drafted and later became a prisoner of war in the U.S. Army. The differences in their circumstances, conflicting political ideologies, and differences of opinion on the management of the company accelerated the discord between the two brothers. After World War II, the brothers continued to feud with each other, and in 1948, the Dassler brothers’ shoe factory was finally dissolved. After parting company, Adolph founded a new company. Adidas” was born, combining his own nickname, Adi, with the first three letters of his last name, Das. Incidentally, his older brother Rudolph also established a manufacturer called RUDA. The following year, this company became ” Puma.

Becoming a global sports brand through fierce sibling rivalry.

After the split between Adidas and Puma, sibling rivalry surfaced in business development as well. The two brothers were involved in a series of lawsuits, taking up all kinds of issues, including design and trademarks, and engaged in a muddled legal battle. In Herzogenaurach, the center of his activities, he even became known as “the town with a bent neck,” as the townspeople would tilt their heads to check the shoes worn by others. The rivalry did not return to normal until the two founders passed away, as they fought for athletes at the Olympics and the World Cup.
