Feature 5: “Hybrid outsole for both paved roads and off-road” of the New Balance 1400
New Balance uses outsoles based on the model’s intended use. The 900 series of running shoes for asphalt use a flat outsole, while the 500 series of off-road models use a lumpy outsole. The M1400 has an outsole with a balanced tread pattern that is just in between the two. It is easy to run on paved surfaces, yet retains its grip on wet or gravel roads. The forefoot is lined with uneven protrusions, so kicking off is natural and reduces the burden of walking for long periods of time. In addition, the wide ground contact area provides a reassuringly high sense of stability.
