Montblanc “, the best fountain pen and ballpoint pen brand

Montblanc is a German brand of writing instruments, which entered its golden age in the 1950s with the launch of the “Meisterstück” fountain pen in the 1920s, which was a huge hit. Since joining the Richemont Group in the 1990s, the brand has expanded to include not only high-end writing instruments, but also watches, fragrances, and leather goods. The company is also famous for the “White Star” logo on its products, which is inspired by the snow covering the peak of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps. The collection of fountain pens and ballpoint pens produced by Montblanc’s expert craftsmanship are often referred to as jewelry because of their luxurious design. In addition to the Meisterstück, the company currently produces fountain pens and ballpoint pens that combine design and writing comfort, such as the ” Starwalker ” and ” Boheme “.

History of Montblanc

Montblanc began with three German pen makers.

Montblanc began in 1906. The company’s roots date back to 1906, when a stationery store owner in Hamburg, a banker, and a German engineer in Berlin began producing fountain pens. Soon after, the business was passed on to Wilhelm Jambois and Christian Lausen, and later to Klaus Johannes Foss, laying the foundation for Montblanc. The company’s early name was ” SIMPLO FILLER PEN Co. The word “Simplo” is derived from the word “simple. As the name symbolizes, the company sold pens with a new design that integrated the previously separate ink container.

In 1909, the company launched the ” Rouge et Noir,” a fountain pen with enhanced safety features, which took the market by storm. The following year, the company registered the name ” Montblanc ” as a trademark. The brand was named after a relative of the co-owner who, while playing a card game, pointed out the similarity between the pen and the Montblanc Peak. As the brand grew in success, the name became a byword for the pinnacle of writing instruments, like Montblanc, the most majestic and highest peak in the Alps. It was not until 1915 that the iconic “White Star” symbol of the Montblanc collection was created.

With the introduction of the ” Meisterstück “, Montblanc became the world’s most prestigious brand of writing instruments.

In 1924, the ” Meisterstück ” collection, Montblanc’s masterpiece, was introduced. The appearance of the world’s most famous writing instrument marked a milestone in the history of the writing instrument culture. In 1929, five years after its launch, the Meisterstück was engraved with the number ” 4810 ” to indicate the altitude of Montblanc Mountain. 1935 saw the introduction of a lifetime warranty for the Meisterstück, which caused quite a stir. In addition, the acquisition of a leather goods manufacturer in Offenbach, Germany, in that year led to the production of items other than writing instruments, such as pen cases and notebooks made of high-quality leather.

Although the factory was destroyed during World War II, it was quickly rebuilt after the war ended in 1946. Montblanc fountain pens were also manufactured in Denmark, and overseas branches were gradually reopened. 1949 saw the launch of the ” Meisterstück 146 ” and ” 144 ” postwar models, which were similar in design to the current models. In 1952, the Meisterstück 149 was launched to worldwide success and became the ultimate symbol of writing instruments, and in 1955, the new ” 60 Line ” was marketed alongside the Meisterstück, and Montblanc steadily increased its position in the postwar market.

In 1990, the first Montblanc boutique was opened in Hong Kong. After first expanding in Asia, the first European boutiques were opened in Paris and London. After the rise of ballpoint pens, the company temporarily stagnated, but in the 1990s it became a member of the Richemont Group, which also includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Vacheron Constantin. As a result, the company became one of the world’s leading luxury brands and started full-scale production of products other than writing instruments. As if to prove that it is a luxury brand in the field of fountain pens as well, in 1994 the Meisterstück Solitaire Royal was launched with 4,910 diamonds set by hand. It was the most luxurious fountain pen in the world and created a sensation.
